The primary responsibilities and duties for this position include the oversight and direction of all cost accounting and subcontract administration for a commercial contractor with operations in the mid-Atlantic. This position will also help with other duties as assigned that will support the Company and the Accounting-Tax-Finance team. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Managing all aspects of the construction contract life cycle from a job costing perspective, including accurate and complete setup, maintenance and close-out. Compiling, accounting for and analyzing construction cost data related to payroll, equipment, subcontracts, permanent materials and overhead expenses. Ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all cost data, including proper cost entry, allocations and accruals. Assisting in the verification and reconciliation of construction quantities and the analysis of productivity data. Tracking and maintaining proper project cost budgets original and revised - including the impacts of owner and subcontractor change orders Performing budget variance analysis on cost and billing information Preparing and entering cost accounting journal entries and assist in monthly closing process of the general ledger. Delivering timely and accurate reporting (both summary and detail) of job cost and project information to provide insights into the trends and performance of projects within the Companys portfolio. Responsible for accurate and timely revenue recognition for all projects at month-end. Assisting project managers to generate, analyze and understand project cost to complete analyses, revenue projections and financial forecasts, including revenue, margin and cash flow. Coordinating and monitoring compliance with project cost accounting best practices and internal control procedures. Communicating frequently with project team personnel and business unit management regarding financial status of construction projects and the status of apparent risks and opportunities that impact project profitability. Assisting project team to ensure timely and accurate billings to project owner. Maintaining awareness of outstanding project accounts receivable and follow-up with project team on collection efforts. Maintaining strong working knowledge of projects via interaction with project teams including site visits. Assisting with preparation and delivery of timely and accurate internal and joint venture billings when applicable. Maintaining awareness of company purchasing best practices and procedures, including tracking subcontracts and purchase orders. Preparing final reconciliations for Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP)/Shared Savings Contracts. Assisting project teams in other ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as necessary. Performing other miscellaneous projects as assigned. Participating actively in business process optimization projects, particularly those relating to project costing and controls. Supporting the Chief Financial Officer and Company President by maintaining frequent communications regarding projects and the performance of duties. Foster a culture of full transparency and no surprises with teammates in operations and the Accounting-Tax-Finance department. Managing and mentoring one Subcontract Administrator direct report including setting goals, monitoring performance and productivity and completing performance reviews. Working experience with general construction/construction management firms is highly preferred. Experience with Viewpoint V6/Vista and HCSS HeavyJob software is a significant plus. Valid drivers license is required. Candidate must be able to occasionally travel as required by the demands of the position.
